Love and Rockets #43
"Love Story" in Love and Rockets #43 (1993) is a poignant, nonlinear narrative from Gilbert Hernandez, whose distinctive voice and art weave together memory, loss, and connection. The story unfolds through twelve sharp shifts in time, following Petra as she recovers from surgery, reconnects with Gorgo, and learns of a long-lost half-sister, Luba, all against the quiet weight of family and grief. The emotionally resonant tale, rendered with Hernandez’s signature precision and sensitivity, culminates in a haunting moment at Petra’s front porch and a quiet, devastating funeral for her mother, Maria.
