Love and Rockets #22
In "Jerusalem Crickets," Gilbert Hernandez weaves a vivid, character-driven snapshot of life in the fictional neighborhood of Palomar, where Humberto’s obsession with European art collides with sudden chaos—monkeys steal Guadalupe’s book, Maricela shares a fleeting moment with Riri, and Luba’s intense bond with Khamo leaves her in a daze. Meanwhile, Chelo begins her investigation into the murder of Adolph Munkres, Archie comes to terms with the end of his relationship with Luba, and Humberto’s quiet sketching at the waterfront turns into a shocking confrontation when he witnesses Tomaso seemingly kill Chancla. The issue, drawn, written, and lettered by Gilbert Hernandez, features a cover by Jaime Hernandez that captures the story’s mood of quiet tension and surreal realism.
