“The Great Lemonade War”

Harvey Comics' polka-dot sweetheart is in fine form on this September 1960 cover, where Little Dot — decked out in her trademark spotted red dress and oversized hat — playfully waves a polka-dotted cape at a dizzy little bull, sending colorful dots swirling around its dazed head. It's a cheerful, gag-filled snapshot of the lighthearted fun that made this series a staple of early 1960s kids' comics, all for just a dime.

Reggie pays a fortune for a horse he thinks will win an upcoming horse show competition that he and Richie are entering. While Reggie brags about his future win, they pass Richie's friend Mickey, who is attached to Twinkletoes, the milkman's delivery horse. Twinkletoes is soon retired, which breaks Mickey's heart. Richie purchases Twinkletoes and reunites her with Mickey. Having discovered that Twinkletoes is incredibly fast and a good jumper, Richie encourages Mickey to enter her in the show, which he does. Despite Reggie's efforts to distract Twinkletoes, she ends up winning the gold cup.
