Fred has to go on a diet because Little Archie won't go on walks with him anymore. But when he sees three freshly-baked pies out in the woods, he takes them and eats two of them. Ambrose, who was bringing the pies to the gang's pie auction, tries to solve the mystery of who stole the pies. He gets the evidence he needs when he sees Fred hiding the last of the three pies. Little Archie is crushed to discover that his dad might be a pie thief, while Fred tries to replace the stolen pies, all the while repeating his new motto: "You just can't win."
