Justice Society of America #9
Power Girl commands the cover of this November 2007 installment of Justice Society of America, rendered in Alex Ross's signature painted style — her arms folded, cape sweeping behind her, radiating quiet, unshakeable authority against a stark black background. The "Thy Kingdom Come" prologue promises big things ahead, and with Geoff Johns writing alongside the interior art of Dale Eaglesham and Ruy José, this series was firing on all cylinders at this point in its run. A compelling single-figure portrait that lets one of DC's most formidable heroes do all the talking.

To raise money to replace a fire engine damaged by them in a fight, the two Wildcats mount a charity bout. During the match, a fire alarm goes off, and the JSA rushes out to a paint factory to help fight the fire. There, they find Goth (who once fought the Titans) murdered by some force he tried to possess. Starman creates a black hole to subdue the force, and in the process seemingly draws a different Superman into the JSA's universe.
