Josie and the Pussycats #64
In "What Kind of Ghoul Am I," Josie and the Pussycats face a mystery when Valerie suddenly vanishes before a big show, citing a sick grandmother. With her absence leaving a hole in the band, Melody and Alexandra step in—only to grow suspicious when they piece together that the club’s owner once made a pass at Valerie. Written by Frank Doyle and brought to life with vibrant energy by Stan Goldberg (pencils), Jon D'Agostino (inks), Barry Grossman (colors), and Bill Yoshida (letters), this 1972 issue captures the band’s camaraderie and the quiet tension of a friend’s unexplained absence—perfectly framed by Goldberg and D'Agostino’s dynamic cover.

Valerie leaves town before an important gig, claiming that she needs to visit a sick grandmother. Josie, Melody and Alexandra (who replaces Valerie in the band while she's away) don't buy the old "sick grandmother" cliché, and assume that Valerie is making some kind of tragic sacrifice to help the Pussycats. And they think they know what it is when they realize that the club they're playing at is owned by someone who unsuccessfully hit on Val.
