“The Hot-Rod Hare”

In "The Hot-Rod Hare," Bugs Bunny gears up for a high-octane showdown, racing both the reckless Speed-Burner gang and his old rival Tom Turtle to settle a score from a past humiliation. With a jet-powered hot rod and a clever scheme to turn the gang’s own plans against them, Bugs faces off in a wild race full of traps and twists. The story, written by Don R. Christensen and illustrated by Tony Strobl, features a memorable cover by Ralph Heimdahl, capturing the chaos of a 1951 comic where speed, smarts, and a little luck collide.

Bugs has two goals - beat the reckless Speed-Burner gang in an auto race, and beat Tom Turtle in a race to make up for an embarrassing previous loss (the famous Tortoise vs. Hare race). Bugs builds a hot rod with a jet engine. He also tricks the Speed-Burner gang into hiring Tom Turtle to be their driver. But the gang also builds a new car with a jet engine. During the race they try several times to sabotage Bugs. The race ends in a tie. At the end Bugs trades his hot rod for a speedboat.
