Fantastic Four #99
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeFantastic Four #99 marks the first appearance of Yeti, an Inhuman mutated by Terrigen Mist whose feral, tragic nature would be substantially developed by later writers across the Marvel Universe. The issue sits near the very end of the celebrated Stan Lee–Jack Kirby run on the title — just three installments before Kirby departed Marvel for DC — lending it a poignant 'last hurrah' quality within one of comics' most consequential creative partnerships. It also resolves the Crystal–Human Torch separation arc that had been building since issue #95, giving the Inhumans Royal Family a rare moment of narrative closure. Decades of retroactive storytelling, from X-Men: The Hidden Years to Marvel: The Lost Generation, continued to mine the events of this single issue, a testament to the generative richness of its premise.
In "The Torch Goes Wild!", Johnny Storm’s temper flares as he clashes with the Inhumans in a showdown that tests his control and courage. Written by Stan Lee and brought to life by Jack Kirby’s dynamic art and Joe Sinnott’s sharp inks, this classic issue captures the fiery intensity of a hero pushed to his limits. The cover by Jack Kirby and John Verpoorten perfectly frames the chaos.

Written by Stan Lee and drawn by Jack Kirby with inks by Joe Sinnott, the issue went on sale March 19, 1970, carrying a June 1970 cover date — deep inside the final months of the legendary Lee–Kirby Fantastic Four collaboration that had defined Marvel's Silver Age. The cover inks credit was disputed for years; the Grand Comics Database notes a correction attributing cover inks to John Verpoorten rather than the originally indexed Frank Giacoia. The story continued directly from the Crystal-departure subplot initiated in issue #95, reflecting the serial, soap-operatic storytelling style Lee and Kirby had cultivated throughout the run.
