This August 2001 issue of Detective Comics features one of the most stylishly sinister covers of the year, with Dave Johnson delivering a retro-pop design that places the Mad Hatter front and center — his crooked grin and wild eyes fixed on you as he extends a steaming cup of coffee beneath the circular "Mad Hatter's Coffee Time" logo. The swirling yellow-and-green sunburst background gives the whole thing an unsettling, psychedelic charm that perfectly captures the character's unhinged teatime menace.
