Who is Alpha Centurion?

Alpha Centurion is a Roman soldier who was taken aboard an alien spacecraft centuries ago, trained as a warrior, and returned to Earth in the modern era — arriving in Metropolis as an armored, technologically advanced champion with a complicated relationship to Superman's role as the city's protector.

A gleaming figure out of the mid-1990s Superman mythos, Alpha Centurion made his debut in Superman: The Man of Steel #53, brought to life by the celebrated creative team of Louise Simonson and Jon Bogdanove. This DC character carries the weight of some genuinely landmark company — sharing pages with the likes of Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, The Flash, and Steel — and has surfaced across prestige projects like Doomsday Clock and DC Universe: Legacies, the kind of universe-spanning epics where legacy truly matters. Spanning from 1996 into 2019, Alpha Centurion may be a rarer find in the longbox, but that scarcity only adds to the appeal for the dedicated DC completist who loves uncovering the corners of the modern age.
