“Crazy Commercial No. 24 Lifecycle Dog Food”

Marvel's humor magazine takes aim at environmental hypocrisy with this perfectly timed 1977 "Hooray for Ecology Issue." Bob Larkin's cover painting delivers the punchline visually: a blue van plastered with "Stop Air Pollution," "Fight for Clean Air," and "Save Our Ozone" signs belches thick black exhaust directly into the face of a small, hunched pedestrian covering their ears from the van's oversized rooftop loudspeakers. It's the kind of self-defeating absurdity that "The Magazine That Dares to Be Dumb" does best, and Larkin captures it with deadpan precision.
