Classic X-Men #9
In "Like a Phoenix from the Ashes!", the X-Men crash-land in Jamaica Bay, where Jean Grey emerges from the wreckage transformed—her return marked by the unmistakable presence of the Phoenix. With Professor X sending most of the team to Scotland for a much-needed break, the X-Men arrive at Banshee’s ancestral castle, only to discover it’s already home to his cousin Tom and his unlikely companion, the Juggernaut. Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Dave Cockrum with art by Tom Morgan, inks by Frank Chiaramonte and Sam Grainger, and colors by Michele Wrightson, this pivotal 1987 issue features a striking cover by Arthur Adams.

The X-Men's shuttle crash lands in Jamaica Bay and Jean rises from the wreckage as the Phoenix. To facilitate Jean's recovery, Professor X sends all of the X-Men but Cyclops to Scotland on vacation where Banshee has just inherited his family's ancestral castle. The X-Men show up at the castle and find it already inhabited by Sean's cousin Tom and his pal Juggernaut. Of course, as all now know, Jean and Phoenix are two separate entities (the latter taking the former for a template), and not the same being as the story insinuates.
