“X-Men contre X-Men !”

In "X-Men contre X-Men!", the X-Men’s shuttle crash-lands in Jamaica Bay, setting off a chain of events that sees Jean Grey emerge from the wreckage transformed—yet not as the Phoenix, but as a being distinct from her cosmic alter ego. With Professor X sending most of the team to Scotland for rest, the mutants arrive at Banshee’s ancestral castle, only to find it already occupied by his cousin Tom and his unlikely companion, the Juggernaut. Written by Chris Claremont and brought to life by Dave Cockrum and Tom Morgan, with inks by Frank Chiaramonte and Sam Grainger and colors by Michele Wrightson, the issue unfolds with mystery and tension. The cover, a striking piece by Arthur Adams, captures the clash of forces before the storm.

The X-Men's shuttle crash lands in Jamaica Bay and Jean rises from the wreckage as the Phoenix. To facilitate Jean's recovery, Professor X sends all of the X-Men but Cyclops to Scotland on vacation where Banshee has just inherited his family's ancestral castle. The X-Men show up at the castle and find it already inhabited by Sean's cousin Tom and his pal Juggernaut. Of course, as all now know, Jean and Phoenix are two separate entities (the latter taking the former for a template), and not the same being as the story insinuates.
