Cerebus #27

This 1981 installment from Aardvark-Vanaheim carries a story title — "The Kidnapping of an Aardvark" — that makes the cover image click perfectly into place: a diminutive, grey Cerebus is surrounded by two cloaked figures, one gripping what appears to be a heavy object, the other with long blonde hair, both bearing down on the small aardvark in a tense nighttime street scene. Dave Sim handles every creative role here, from script to finished inks, and his confident linework gives the scene a brooding, almost cinematic weight. A compelling chapter in the long-running saga of comics' most unlikely political animal.
