Part five of the "Flight" arc within Dave Sim and Gerhard's sprawling Mothers & Daughters saga, this 1992 issue delivers one of the series' most striking cover images: Cerebus, sword clutched tightly in both hands, tumbling alone through a vast, storm-grey sky. The sheer emptiness surrounding the small aardvark figure gives the composition an unsettling, vertiginous weight — Sim and Gerhard's collaboration here is quietly stunning, the painted cloudscape doing as much storytelling as any panel of sequential art.
