Cable (2024) #2 is the second chapter of the fifth volume of Cable's solo series — a four-issue limited run tied directly to the climax of Marvel's Krakoa era — making it part of a historically bookmarked moment when the X-Men line was undergoing its most dramatic editorial overhaul since the early 1990s. The issue deepens the series' central structural conceit of pairing the adult Nathan Summers with his time-displaced teenage counterpart, a dynamic that had never been written by Fabian Nicieza before, despite Nicieza having written more Cable comics than any other writer in the character's history. The series was announced in October 2023 and positioned by Marvel as a tie-in to the dual 'Fall of the House of X' / 'Rise of the Powers of X' crossover that concluded the Krakoa era. Editor Jordan D. White brought Nicieza back specifically because his decades-long relationship with Cable — stretching from early-1990s X-Force scripts and the first Cable solo miniseries through the mid-2000s Cable & Deadpool ongoing — made him the natural choice to close out Nathan Summers' Krakoan chapter. Penciller Scot Eaton and letterer VC Joe Sabino anchored the artistic team, with Whilce Portacio providing the main covers across the run and a rotating slate of variant artists — including Emanuela Lupacchino, George Pérez (posthumous Marvel Masterpieces homage), and Greg & Tim Hildebrandt — attached to issue #2 specifically.
