Cable #3
Cable (2024) #3 serves as the penultimate chapter of a four-issue limited series that functioned as an official tie-in to Marvel's conclusion of the Krakoan Age — the five-year X-Men publishing initiative that ran from 2019 to 2024. The issue advances the investigation into the Neocracy, a brand-new threat introduced across this miniseries, and deepens the confrontation with the villain Henri Parvenu and the secret mastermind Black Womb (Amanda Müeller), whose death occurs in this issue according to the Marvel Database. Notably, the issue also marks the return of the long-dormant supporting character Irene Merryweather — Cable's longtime journalist ally last seen in The Despicable Deadpool — and features the final appearance of Empyrean, a villain first introduced in X-Men Annual #2 (1993) during the Legacy Virus storyline. The entire series, including this issue, was subsequently collected in the Fall of the House of X / Rise of the Powers of X Omnibus, cementing its place as part of the official record of the Krakoan Age's finale.

The 2024 Cable miniseries was announced in October 2023 as a deliberate homecoming: writer Fabian Nicieza, who had defined the character through the 1990s X-Force and Cable solo titles and the 2000s Cable & Deadpool series, returned to the character for the first time in years. Paired with penciller Scot Eaton and cover artist Whilce Portacio, the book was positioned by Marvel as a tie-in to Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X — the dual interconnected miniseries that closed out the Krakoan Age begun under Jonathan Hickman in 2019. Issue #3, published March 27, 2024, carried a split pencilling credit between Eaton and Lan Medina, suggesting mid-series art assistance, while inkers Cam Smith and Victor Nava and colorist Javier Tartaglia maintained visual consistency across the run.
