Batman Eternal #1

Jun 2014 · DC · 2.99 USD

Batman Eternal #1 kicks off with a haunting glimpse of a future Bruce Wayne, bound to a broken Bat-Signal as Gotham burns. In the present, Batman and Commissioner Gordon clash with Professor Pyg’s gang, leading to a deadly accident on the subway tracks that lands Gordon under arrest—setting the stage for a city in chaos. Written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Ray Fawkes, John Layman, and Tim Seeley, with bold artwork by Jason Fabok and colors by Brad Anderson, the issue’s cover by Fabok captures the moment’s grim intensity.

The story begins with Bruce Wayne, presumably in the future, tied to a shattered bat signal with the city burning in the background. Back in the present Professor Pyg's gang battles with Commissioner Gordon and Batman and when Pyg's gang runs the two split up to chase them. Gordon chases a henchman and corners him on the subway tracks. Gordon fires on the armed assailant, but his shot hits an electrical box that explodes and ultimately causes two trains to collide head on. Newly hired Lt. Bard arrives on the scene with the rest of the GCPD and Gordon is arrested on manslaughter charges.
