Batman #12

Scott Snyder scripted the lead story specifically to flesh out Harper Row, who had appeared only in cameo or supporting capacity in Batman #1 and #7 before this issue gave her a full origin. Snyder later noted, in DC's own promotional material, that he was genuinely stunned to learn Cloonan would be the first woman to illustrate the flagship title — a fact he said surprised both of them. The backup story, set in the 'Court of Owls' epilogue, was co-written by Snyder and James Tynion IV, with art by Andy Clarke; it concluded a multi-part story about Jarvis Pennyworth, Alfred's father. The issue was released on August 8, 2012, with a cover date of October 2012, edited by Mike Marts with Katie Kubert as assistant editor.
