Avengers: Twilight #3

History

Avengers: Twilight was a years-in-the-making project for Zdarsky, who described the self-contained format — one writer, one artist, six issues — as his favorite kind of undertaking precisely because such books, in his words, 'you can sell forever.' Marvel VP Executive Editor Tom Brevoort shepherded the series editorially alongside associate editors Martin Biro and Annalise Bissa; issue #3 was lettered by Joe Caramagna, with covers for every issue painted by Alex Ross, whose involvement gave the run an immediate visual association with prestige Marvel publishing. Daniel Acuña, a Spanish illustrator who entered American comics through DC before building an extensive Marvel bibliography across titles like Uncanny Avengers and Eternals, served as sole penciler, inker, and colorist throughout the series, making #3's densely atmospheric prison-break sequence entirely his own visual statement. The first issue's strong reception prompted a second printing timed to the same February 28, 2024 on-sale date as issue #3.
