“Falls the Shadow”

The cover tagline says it all — "…a clash of titans…" — as a massive, red-skinned demonic powerhouse grapples with a spiky, luminous green energy form in a scene of spectacular mid-air violence, while two smaller figures scramble in the chaos below. Steve Crespo's pencils (inked by Will Blyberg) give the whole confrontation a raw, kinetic energy that fits perfectly with the bold, grungy early-'90s DC aesthetic. With "Falls the Shadow" as the interior story from writers Elizabeth Hand and Paul Witcover, Anima #8 looks like a genuinely thrilling entry in this underappreciated corner of the 1994 DC universe.
