“Mystery at Apex Broadcasting”

In "Mystery at Apex Broadcasting," Alan Scott, the Green Lantern, steps into the spotlight not as a hero in costume but as a man seeking answers, infiltrating APEX Broadcasting after a top announcer’s murder. Written by Bill Finger and illustrated by Martin Nodell, this 1940 issue blends radio-age intrigue with early superhero sleuthing, as Scott teams up with Irene Miller to uncover a web of deception hidden in plain sight. The story unfolds with quiet tension and sharp plotting, all under Sheldon Moldoff’s crisp cover art.

When the station's top announcer is murdered, Alan Scott applies for a job at APEX Broadcasting to investigate, but the assistant manager, Mr. Gates, tells him there are no openings. Working with Irene Miller, who coincidentally works at APEX, Scott discovers that Mr. Gates was using the announcer's program to send coded messages to his henchmen in his smuggling operations. After getting a confession out of Gates as Green Lantern, Alan frees Irene and receives a job offer from the president of APEX Broadcasting.
