Yves Swolfs

Yves Swolfs was born on 25 April 1955 in Belgium and has built a prolific career as both writer and artist across several decades of European comics. He is perhaps best recognized for the western series Durango, which he launched in 1980 and which established his reputation for rugged, atmospheric storytelling in the tradition of the Franco-Belgian genre western.

Swolfs has demonstrated considerable range beyond the frontier setting. His vampire series Le prince de la Nuit, published from 1994 to 2001, brought a gothic sensibility to the supernatural thriller format, while the dystopian science fiction series Vlad, which ran from 2000 to 2006, saw him working alongside illustrator Griffo. He also developed the fantasy series Légende beginning in 2003. Additional titles in his catalog include Black Hills and Lonesome, further expanding his work within the western genre. His books have appeared through several respected publishers, among them Glénat, Soleil Productions, Le Lombard, and Éditions des Archers.

Across a creative span stretching from the early 1980s through the mid-2020s, Swolfs has contributed to well over 190 issues in roles encompassing writing, artwork, coloring, and inking. That breadth of craft — sustained across multiple genres and publisher relationships — marks him as one of the more quietly durable figures in the Belgian comics tradition.
