Roberto Gaston Orcí was born on July 20, 1973, in Mexico City, and died on February 25, 2025. He is best known for his long-running screenwriting and producing partnership with Alex Kurtzman, which began when the two met at school in California. Together, they wrote the scripts for blockbuster films including *Transformers* (2007), *Star Trek* (2009), and *The Amazing Spider-Man 2* (2014). Their television work included co-creating *Fringe* with J. J. Abrams in 2008 and *Sleepy Hollow* with Phillip Iscove in 2013. Orci’s film producing credits began with *Eagle Eye* (2008) and *The Proposal* (2009). He also wrote for comic book adaptations of the *Star Trek* franchise, including *Star Trek: Countdown* and *Star Trek: Khan*, active in the medium from 2009 to 2017. Orci received the Norman Lear Writer’s Award and the Raul Julia Award for Excellence, and shared the George Pal Memorial Award with collaborators. His later television projects included *Matador* for the El Rey Network and producing work on *Limitless* and *Scorpion*.
