Purita Campos
1937–2019
Purificación Campos Sánchez, who worked professionally as Purita Campos, was a Spanish cartoonist, illustrator, and painter born on 18 August 1937. She passed away on 19 November 2019.
Over a career spanning more than four decades — from roughly 1960 into the early 2000s — Campos built an extensive body of work in European girls' comics, taking on roles as artist, colorist, and inker across more than 640 issues. Her output was concentrated in romance and teen-focused titles that found devoted readerships across Britain and the Continent, among them *Tina*, *Princess Tina*, *Mirabelle*, *Valentine*, *Romeo*, and *Biggi*. These publications were a staple of the girls' comics market, and Campos's clean, expressive draftsmanship became a defining visual presence within the genre.
Her willingness to work across multiple creative functions — drawing, inking, and coloring — reflected both the practical demands of the industry and a genuine versatility as a visual artist. That breadth extended beyond sequential art into illustration and painting throughout her life. Though she worked largely within a commercial publishing context, the sheer volume and consistency of her contributions established her as one of the more quietly prolific figures in mid-to-late twentieth century European girls' comics.
