Mark Badger
1958–
Mark Badger (born Mark Billings Badger, October 16, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American comic book artist, painter, and occasional colorist, best known for his work on *American Flagg!*, *The Spectre*, and *Gargoyle*. Entering the industry in the mid-1980s, Badger quickly established himself as a versatile penciler, inker, and cover artist, with a style that blended expressive linework with a painterly sensibility. He collaborated frequently with writers such as Howard Chaykin and John Ostrander, and co-created the series *The Score* and *Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight: Jazz*. A pioneer in digital comic art, Badger was an early adopter of computer tools for creating sequential art, later turning to web-based comics for education and activism. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age thirty, he has remained active in both comics and political organizing, working with the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice to produce web comix preserving the legacy of queer civil rights pioneer Bayard Rustin. Badger also teaches programming, comic books, and web development at San Francisco’s Academy of Art University. He lives in Oakland, California.
