Jim Mahfood
b. 1975
Jim Mahfood, also known as Food One, was born on March 29, 1975, and is an American comic book creator. He first gained attention in the late 1990s when Oni Press hired him to illustrate two comic book adaptations of Kevin Smith's film *Clerks*, working from Smith's scripts. This came shortly after his work on Marvel's *Generation X Underground Special*. Mahfood is best known for his creator-owned series *Grrl Scouts* and the weekly comic strip *Stupid Comics* for the *Phoenix New Times*. His distinctive, energetic style—a blend of graffiti, punk, and manga influences—has made him a sought-after artist. For Marvel, he contributed to several Spider-Man titles, including *Ultimate Marvel Team-Up* and *Spectacular Spider-Man*. Over his career, spanning from 1996 to 2021, he has served as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on more than 50 issues, with notable work on *Miami Vice Remix*, *Peter Parker: Spider-Man*, *Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers*, *Kick Drum Comix*, and *Superman*. Mahfood’s bold, hand-drawn aesthetic and independent spirit have left a lasting mark on alternative and mainstream comics alike.
