Elliot Maggin
Elliot S. Maggin (born 1950) is an American writer best known for his defining runs on Superman during the Bronze and early Modern ages of comics. Born in 1950, he became a key voice at DC Comics in the 1970s and 1980s, crafting stories that deepened the Man of Steel’s mythology. His signature work includes the novel *Superman: Last Son of Krypton* and the comic storylines “Must There Be a Superman?” and “Superman: The Earth Stealers.” Maggin collaborated frequently with artists such as Curt Swan and José Luis García-López, and co-created the villain Amalak and the hero Nightwing (the Kryptonian). Beyond Superman, he wrote for *Action Comics*, *Shazam!*, and *Batman*. Later in life, Maggin pursued politics, running as a Democrat for the U.S. House of Representatives from New Hampshire in 1984 and California in 2008. He remains active in comics, with credits spanning from 1972 to 2021. His work earned him a place in the Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2022. Maggin’s thoughtful, character-driven approach helped shape Superman’s modern identity, and his contributions continue to influence writers today.
