David Liss
David Liss (born March 16, 1966, in New Jersey) is an American novelist and comic book writer. He grew up in South Florida and holds degrees from Syracuse University, Georgia State University, and Columbia University, where he studied 18th-century British literature before leaving academia to write full-time. Liss is best known for his historical-mystery and thriller novels, such as *A Conspiracy of Paper*, which won the 2001 Edgar Award for Best First Novel. His transition to comics began in 2011, and he became a regular writer for pulp heroes, notably on *The Spider*, *The Green Hornet: Reign of the Demon*, *The Shadow Now*, and *Mystery Men*. He also wrote for Marvel’s *Black Panther* during the *The Man Without Fear* and *The Most Dangerous Man Alive* arcs. Liss’s work in comics often blends period detail with action and intrigue, reflecting his novelistic strengths. He has collaborated with artists like Colton Worley and Jefte Palo. A full-time writer since 2010, Liss lives in San Antonio, Texas, with his family and remains active in the thriller community, attending Bouchercon and Thrillerfest.
