Who is Vril Dox II?

The half-Coluan son of Brainiac, Vril Dox II possesses twelfth-level intellect and escaped his father's control to forge his own destiny, eventually founding L.E.G.I.O.N., a for-hire interstellar police force, in the late 30th century BC era of the DC universe.

Born from the creative partnership of Roger Stern and the legendary Curt Swan in the pages of Action Comics Weekly #637 in 1989, Vril Dox II arrived at the dawn of DC's Modern Age as a character clearly built for the long game. He anchored the L.E.G.I.O.N. titles through the early '90s, sharing adventures with a gloriously eclectic cast that includes Garryn Bek, Strata, Stealth, and even the likes of Lobo and Green Lantern — company that signals just how deeply woven into the DC cosmos this figure became. With two key collector issues to his name and a publishing presence stretching across more than two decades, Vril Dox II is exactly the kind of deep-cut Copper Age discovery that rewards fans who dig past the marquee names.
