About the series
In 1989, DC launched L.E.G.I.O.N. '89, a cosmic series that spun out of the Invasion! crossover, following the ruthless Vril Dox II as he assembles a private interstellar police force from a motley crew of alien outcasts and mercenaries, including the volatile Lobo. Written primarily by Keith Giffen and Alan Grant with art by Barry Kitson, the series blended Giffen's signature humor with space-opera intrigue, chronicling the team's morally gray adventures as they impose order across the galaxy. Though it ran for only ten issues, it established a cult-favorite corner of the DC universe, redefining Dox's legacy and setting the stage for future cosmic sagas.
