Who is Plasmus?

Otto von Furth was a German laborer who suffered severe radium poisoning, which transformed his entire body into living protoplasm. This agonizing conversion made him a lethal threat, as his touch could reduce others to a protoplasmic state — a condition that led to his recruitment by the Brotherhood of Evil.

Emerging from the Bronze Age imagination of the legendary New Teen Titans creative team — George Pérez, Marv Wolfman, and Romeo Tanghal — Plasmus made a striking debut in 1981 alongside some of DC's most beloved young heroes, sharing pages with the likes of Robin, Wonder Girl, and Garfield Logan. Over a remarkable 32-year publishing life stretching into 2013, this DC villain carved out enough of a reputation to earn an entry in Who's Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe and rack up three collector-significant key issues — no small feat for a character with 31 catalog appearances. Whether menacing the Teen Titans or turning up in the charming all-ages world of Tiny Titans, Plasmus has proven a surprisingly durable fixture of the DC universe, a Bronze Age creation with real staying power worth tracking down for fans who love the rich, character-dense world that Wolfman and Pérez built.
