Who is Olive?

Olive Oyl is Popeye the Sailor's longtime sweetheart — a tall, slender, good-natured woman whose loyalty to Popeye, despite constant misadventures, defines their enduring bond. She appeared in this French-language edition alongside Popeye and the rest of his colorful supporting cast.

Olive made her French comics debut in 1964, stepping onto the Silver Age scene in the pages of Cap'tain Présente Popeye #1 under the hands of creators Michele Gazzarri and Pierluigi Sangalli — and she never really left, racking up 129 catalog appearances across more than two decades with Société Française de Presse Illustrée. Throughout her run in Cap'tain Présente Popeye and its companion specials and magazine editions, she shares the page with a colorful cast including Timothée, Gontran, Poupa, Haggy, and Georges, making her a fixture of a rich Franco-Belgian comics universe. Collectors take note: three of her appearances carry key-issue status, a mark of genuine significance in any collection. With a publishing life stretching all the way from 1964 to 1987, Olive is a wonderfully enduring figure worth tracking down for any fan of European comics history.
