About the series
In 1983 and 1984, French publisher Greantori brought Popeye back to the newsstand with Les aventures de Popeye, a four-issue comic series that paired classic American cartooning with a fresh European audience. Bud Sagendorf—the longtime artist and writer who defined the sailor's look for decades—was joined by fellow veteran George Wildman and writer Nicola Cuti to deliver brisk, family-friendly adventures. The series featured Popeye alongside his familiar supporting cast, including Poupa, Timothée, Mimosa, Gontran, and Haggy, offering a charming, mid-century style romp that bridged the character's golden-age roots with 1980s comics. Though brief, it stands as a notable international tribute to Popeye's enduring, spinach-fueled appeal.
