Kamandi
Created by Jack Kirby, Kamandi is a young survivor living in a post-apocalyptic Earth ravaged by a cataclysm called 'the Great Disaster,' where intelligent animals rule and humans have been reduced to savagery. Raised in an underground bunker by his grandfather, he emerges alone into this dangerous world.
A genuine curio of the DC Universe, Kamandi first surfaced in the Bronze Age pages of Swamp Thing #6 in 1973, brought to life by the legendary team of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Over nearly five decades, this character has proven surprisingly durable, turning up across a remarkable range of DC landmarks — from the universe-shaking Crisis on Infinite Earths to the celebrated Wednesday Comics anthology — and sharing pages with heavyweights like Batman, The Flash, and Green Lantern. With 41 catalog appearances, at least one collector-recognized key issue, and even a crossover into Savage Dragon territory, Kamandi is the kind of deep-cut DC figure that rewards the curious fan willing to dig past the marquee names.
