John Grayson
John Grayson was a skilled acrobat performing with Haly's Circus alongside his wife Mary. Together they were the star trapeze act and the parents of young Dick Grayson, who would go on to become Robin, Batman's first partner.
A Silver Age creation who has quietly endured across more than six decades of DC storytelling, John Grayson made his debut in Batman #129 in 1960, brought to life by Jerry Coleman and the legendary Dick Sprang. He's a figure whose significance ripples outward through the pages he inhabits — sharing them with Batman, Robin, Bruce Wayne, Mary Grayson, and Dick Grayson — and whose presence turns up most memorably in titles like Nightwing, Batman, and Batman and Robin: Year One. With 38 catalogued appearances and two key issues to his name, John Grayson is the kind of character whose quiet importance to the broader DC tapestry rewards the curious collector willing to dig in.
