Idéfix
Idéfix is a small white dog who attached himself to the Gaulish warrior Obélix, first appearing in the Astérix series. The lovable stray gradually became Obélix's devoted canine companion, accompanying him and Astérix on their adventures against the Romans.
Few comics companions have burrowed as deeply into readers' hearts as Idéfix, the tiny but indomitable dog who first trotted onto the page in Astérix #5 back in 1965, conjured by the legendary duo of René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. Across six decades of Gaulish adventure published by Dargaud, this pint-sized presence has shared the page with icons like Astérix, Obélix, Panoramix, and the whole irrepressible village — enduring company that speaks to just how central Idéfix is to one of comics' most beloved universes. With nearly 40 catalogued appearances stretching from the Silver Age all the way to 2025, he's proof that longevity in comics isn't reserved for caped giants. If you're discovering the world of the unconquerable Gauls, Idéfix is the warm, whirling heart you didn't know you were looking for.
