Who is Colossus?

Born into a farming family in the Soviet Union, Piotr Rasputin discovered he could transform his body into an incredibly dense organic steel, granting him superhuman strength and durability. Professor Charles Xavier recruited the gentle Russian giant to join a new roster of X-Men.

Few Marvel debuts carry the landmark weight of Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975), the Bronze Age blockbuster crafted by Chris Claremont, Len Wein, and Dave Cockrum that introduced Colossus to the world alongside an entirely new generation of mutant heroes. Over more than five decades, this towering X-Man has become one of the most enduring figures in Marvel's mutant mythology, racking up 1,352 catalog appearances — 90 of them recognized as key collector issues — across Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, and beyond. He's spent those years in the absolute thick of it, sharing pages with legends like Wolverine, Storm, and Cyclops, the very heart of the X-Men's most celebrated era. If you love the rich, character-driven storytelling that made the X-Men a cultural phenomenon, Colossus is as essential as it gets.
