Astérix
A small but cunning Gaulish warrior living in a village in 50 BC Gaul, Astérix gains superhuman strength by drinking a magic potion brewed by the druid Getafix, allowing him and his fellow villagers to resist the Roman occupation surrounding them.
Few comic characters can claim to have launched an entire publishing empire from their very first panel, but Astérix did exactly that, bursting onto the scene in the debut issue of Pilote in 1959 — a Silver Age arrival created by Jean-Michel Charlier and Uderzo that would go on to span an extraordinary 66 years of continuous publication. This pint-sized Gaulish hero has anchored the Astérix series for Dargaud across generations of readers, sharing his irreverent adventures with a beloved cast including Panoramix, Abraracourcix, Idéfix, Assurancetourix, and Cétautomatix. With a key-issue debut and 56 catalog appearances stretching from 1959 all the way to 2025, Astérix is one of the most enduring figures in Franco-Belgian comics — and frankly, in all of world comics — a character whose longevity speaks for itself.
