Out of the Vortex

In the early 1990s, Dark Horse Comics launched Out of the Vortex, a 12-issue series that wove together science fiction and horror through the talents of writers Neal Barrett Jr., John Ostrander, and Diana Schutz, with art by Damon Willis, Pete McDonnell, and Randall Green. The series explored a mysterious, reality-bending phenomenon that pulled characters into a chaotic, otherworldly dimension, blending tense survival narratives with cosmic dread. While a relatively brief run, it showcased Dark Horse’s willingness to experiment with genre storytelling and remains a curious artifact of the era’s indie comic scene.
