Trivia · 8 facts

  • Story title: 'Judgement War Part 3: Arena!' — the third installment of the multi-part Judgement War arc running through X-Factor #43–50 (1989–1990).
  • First appearances of Agrom (a Reject-faction warrior forced into arena combat against Archangel) and Nikoh (a young Reject who manifests fire powers in this issue).
  • Archangel is held as the gladiatorial 'property' of Lord Rask and fights Agrom in the Chosen's arena; when electronic 'Goads' ramp up his aggression he wins the match, but refuses to execute his defeated opponent.
  • In a dungeon scene after the fight, Archangel confides to Agrom that he has sworn never again to be controlled by anyone — a direct reference to his manipulation by Apocalypse during the Horsemen storyline.
  • Nathan Christopher Charles Summers (the infant who will eventually become Cable) appears as a supporting character, tended by Princess Seera while his father Cyclops searches for his scattered teammates.
  • Cyclops observes the Celestial Gammenon the Gatherer on the planet's surface alongside Dykon of the Beginagains, establishing the cosmic stakes of the Celestials' ongoing judgment of the planet.
  • Creative team: writer Louise Simonson, penciler Paul Smith, inker Al Milgrom, colorist Tom Vincent, letterer Joe Rosen, editor Bob Harras; cover art also by Paul Smith.
  • The issue and its surrounding arc were collected in X-Factor Epic Collection Vol. 4: Judgement War (2023, Marvel), the first time the storyline was reprinted in color.
