“My Home...”

In "My Home...", a hauntingly poetic tale from 1953, a family fleeing Earth’s destruction settles on Mars, believing they’ve found a new beginning among the silent ruins of a dead civilization. Written by Ray Bradbury and Al Feldstein, with evocative art by John Severin and Bill Elder, and colored by Marie Severin, the story unfolds with quiet dread as the father’s promise to his children takes on a chilling new meaning. The cover, a striking collaboration by Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta, captures the eerie beauty of a world reborn from ruin.

A father and his family who had fled Earth to Mars during a global war, take their kids on a trip in their boat past dead cities whose Martian population had been wiped out. Finally arriving at one of the cities, the family stops and decides to make their new home there, with Dad promising the kids that they would soon see Martians. After hearing that Earth has been destroyed, the father tells his kids they will live in one of the ruined Martian cities and will meet another Earth family who have girls instead of boys. The father then explains to the kids that they are now the Martians.
