Ultimate X-Men #6
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeUltimate X-Men #6 (2024) serves as the capstone of Peach Momoko's debut story arc on Earth-6160, delivering the first organized battle of the new Ultimate X-Men and formally confirming Shinobu Kageyama as the Shadow King — a wholly reimagined, Japan-set take on a classic Marvel villain. The issue also carries the unnamed first appearance of Akihiro, an enigmatic figure whose blood is used by the Children of the Atom cult to activate mutant X-genes, a detail that seeds the series' larger mythology. As the conclusion of the first arc of only the third title in Marvel's relaunched Ultimate Universe line, it marks the moment a scrappy group of teenage mutants crystallizes into a recognizable team, establishing the moral and thematic stakes — marginalized mutants versus a fanatical cult — that drive the series forward.

Ultimate X-Men (Vol. 2) launched in March 2024 as part of Marvel's second Ultimate Universe imprint, with Peach Momoko serving as writer, penciler, inker, and colorist — a rare quadruple role — while Zack Davisson handled English script adaptation and Travis Lanham provided lettering. The series grew directly out of Momoko's earlier variant-cover work: her character Maystorm debuted on the New Champions variant cover for X-Men (Vol. 6) #27, a program that imagined hypothetical young sidekicks for established Marvel heroes, and Maystorm became the first character from that initiative to transition into ongoing comics storytelling. Momoko has described being given significant creative latitude by Marvel, and the series is notably set almost entirely in Japan, deliberately avoiding the X-Mansion, Sentinels, Professor X, and other hallmarks of classic X-Men lore.
