In TV21 #77 (1971), the Sting-Ray—also known as the Scorpion—strikes during a school fundraiser at Carter Slade’s ranch, stealing the collected funds and paralyzing Sheriff Brooks and Clay Riley. The Ghost Rider pursues, only to be thwarted by the Sheriff’s posse, setting off a tense standoff that escalates when the local druggist, secretly the Sting-Ray, kidnaps Natalie. With the Sheriff still mistrustful, the Ghost Rider must fight to clear his name—until the mysterious Tarantula intervenes, pretending to aid the Night Rider. Written by Gary Friedrich and Dick Ayers, with art by Dick Ayers and inks by Vince Colletta, this issue features a cover by Carlos Pino and Vicente Alcázar.
