Carlos Pino
Carlos Pino is a Spanish comics artist born in 1940, best recognized for his prolific and enduring association with the British war anthology *Commando*, for which he has contributed art across roughly three hundred issues spanning a quarter century — a relationship that was still ongoing as of late 2020.
Pino's introduction to the profession came unusually early: at fourteen he was already earning payment for artwork submitted to the Spanish comic *Pumby*. Through the late 1950s he built experience on titles such as *Duwarin* and co-founded the short-lived *Toucan* before crossing into British comics with *War Picture Library* in the 1960s.
A significant chapter of his career unfolded in collaboration with Vicente Alcazar, the two working together under the shared pseudonym "Carvic." This partnership produced work for the Spanish war comic *Chío*, then British titles including *TV Century 21* — where they illustrated *Star Trek*, *The Saint*, and *Department S* — and from 1974 onward, American publications such as *Monsters Unleashed* and *Archie's Madhouse*. When the partnership dissolved, Pino returned to UK work, drawing *Johnny Red* in *Battle Picture Weekly*, followed by *Invasion!* and *Disaster 1990* for *2000 AD*, and serving as the launch artist on *Ro-Busters* in *Starlord* in 1978. His later credits include *Judge Dredd* for the *Daily Star* (1991–96) and extensive work for *Eagle*, *The Victor*, and *Warlord*.
