“The Demon That Devoured Hollywood!”

In "The Demon That Devoured Hollywood!", a struggling couple seeking refuge from a storm stumbles upon an abandoned house that traps them for what feels like one night—only to emerge to find seven years have vanished. Written by Gerry Conway and illustrated by Syd Shores, this eerie tale from Tower of Shadows #5 (1970) blends marital tension and supernatural mystery, as the couple grapples with the lingering suspicion that the woman’s uncle—whose dark interests may have reached beyond the grave—orchestrated their time-lost ordeal. The haunting cover by Marie Severin and Bill Everett perfectly captures the story’s unsettling tone.

A couple whose marriage is falling apart are trying to get to the woman's uncle's house as he lies dying so they can get his inheritance. Driving through a storm, they end up having to find shelter. They enter a creepy old abandoned house where they are locked in over night. They survive the night and find that their romance has rekindled. When they are able to leave the next morning, they find out that seven years have passed. The woman feels her now dead uncle (who dabbled in the black arts) was responsible for the ordeal so she can save her marriage.
