Thor #141
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThor #141 is a satisfying double-header from the heart of the Lee–Kirby Silver Age run, delivering two distinct tonal registers in a single issue. The main story introduces Replicus, a powerful adaptive android built by the alien Chuda — one of the era's more inventive Thor foes, whose self-contained one-and-done arc ends with a surprisingly poignant twist when the mobster Slugger Sykes sacrifices himself rather than let Earth fall to alien conquest. Simultaneously, the five-page 'Tales of Asgard' backup marks the first appearance of Alibar, the Arabian Nights–flavored thief who becomes a key player in the extended Mogul of the Mystic Mountain saga running through issues #137–145, and also introduces Satan's Forty Horsemen — Mogul's spectacular demonic cavalry conjured directly from the tradition of 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.' Together the two stories showcase the creative range Lee and Kirby were operating at in 1967: grounded street-level science-fiction menace in the A-story, and sweeping mythic-fantastical adventure in the B-story.
In "The Wrath of Replicus," Thor faces a terrifying new foe when the cyborg Replicus, unleashed by the criminal Slugger Sykes and the enigmatic Chuda, turns against its creators in a shocking betrayal. Written by Stan Lee and brought to life with dynamic energy by Jack Kirby, this 1967 classic sees the God of Thunder clash with a machine forged for conquest—its fate sealed by the very human ambition it was meant to serve. The cover by Jack Kirby, with inks by Vince Colletta and Frank Giacoia, captures the moment of crisis in bold, dramatic detail.
In "The Wrath of Replicus," a young man named Blackie finds himself caught in a deadly game when Slugger Sykes and the enigmatic Chuda unleash the cybernetic Replicus for criminal gain. As the machine turns on its creators, Thor must confront the mechanical menace before it's too late—leaving Blackie to face the aftermath of a battle that reshaped the fate of the city.

By the spring of 1967, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby had fully transformed Thor's backup 'Tales of Asgard' feature into a serialized Arabian Nights-inflected fantasy epic, with the Mogul of the Mystic Mountain storyline — which began in Thor #137 — serving as one of the most sustained sequential narratives in the title's early years. Issue #141, released on April 4, 1967, represents the fifth chapter of that Mystic Mountain arc in the backup while simultaneously running a self-contained alien-robot thriller in the lead feature. The cover was penciled by Kirby with Frank Giacoia providing re-inking over vignettes drawn from the interior, a production note documented by researcher Nick Caputo.

- Replicus revisited: A second Replicus model resurfaced in Thor vol. 2 #9 (March 1999) and #12 (June 1999), written by Dan Jurgens with art by John Buscema and John Romita Jr. respectively, when Slugger Sykes's nephew discovered a pre-built duplicate in storage.
- Collected editions: The main story has been reprinted in Marvel Spectacular #12 (December 1974), Essential Thor Vol. 3 (2006, black and white), Marvel Masterworks: The Mighty Thor Vol. 6 (2007), The Mighty Thor Omnibus Vol. 2 (2013), and Thor Epic Collection Vol. 3: The Wrath of Odin (2017).
