A man of the cloth stands at the center of this haunting cover — clerical collar visible, hand pressed to his chest — while walkers close in around him through the tall grass, flames licking the ground at his feet. Charlie Adlard's composition is quietly unnerving, placing faith and the apocalypse in stark, unavoidable conversation. Robert Kirkman and Adlard, with Cliff Rathburn's muted palette, were doing some of their most atmospheric work together in 2009.
