About this Collection

This collection reprints the 2009 miniseries that revives the classic Silver Age duo of Flamebird and Nightwing, now reimagined as a pair of Kryptonian vigilantes operating in the fiery wastelands of Kandor. Written by Greg Rucka with art by Eddy Barrows, the story follows the two heroes as they navigate a corrupt society and uncover a conspiracy within their bottled city. The volume also includes the original 1960s debut of the characters from Superman #158 and other backup features from the Supergirl series.

In "Menace of the Micro-Monster," Superman—disguised as Nightwing—teams up with Jimmy (Flamebird) on a mission to Kandor, where they’re reluctantly joined by Dev-Re’s missing daughter, Sarna. When a mysterious space-germ triggers chaos among the tiny Kandorians, turning them against the heroes, Jimmy must outwit Sarna and her radical allies to stop the plague. Written by Cary Bates and illustrated by Kurt Schaffenberger, with colors by Drew R. Moore, this 2009 tale blends alien intrigue and clever traps in a high-stakes adventure. The cover by Curt Swan and Rodney Ramos captures the tense moment just before the crisis peaks.
