Who is Fred Danvers?

Frederick Danvers was a scientist who, along with his wife Edna, adopted Linda Lee Danvers — secretly the Kryptonian heroine Supergirl — providing her a civilian home and family on Earth. He later briefly and unexpectedly developed ESP-like abilities, though he ultimately lost them.

A warm and steady presence in the Silver Age DC universe, Fred Danvers made his debut in Action Comics #279 in 1961, brought to life by the legendary team of Jerry Siegel and Jim Mooney. Woven into the fabric of Supergirl's world from the very beginning, he's spent over six decades sharing pages with the Girl of Steel herself, alongside Sylvia Danvers, Clark Kent, and Superman — about as distinguished a circle as the DC universe has to offer. His appearances span Action Comics, Supergirl, and The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl, making him a quietly enduring figure across multiple eras of one of DC's most beloved titles. For collectors who love the human heart behind the superhero story, Fred Danvers is exactly the kind of character worth seeking out.
